Nautical Petroleum is planning to build a well site on the western coast of Walney Island and explore for gas in the Irish Sea. Once constructed, the well site compound would contain all the necessary equipment to undertake the drilling including the drill rig itself. If we are successful in finding gas and subject to planning approval, we hope to transport the gas to one of the processing plants in Barrow in Furness or Morecambe Bay for processing so that it can be used to power local businesses and homes.
Nautical Petroleum aims to work in partnership with the local community and stakeholders to ensure that those who live and work in the area where we plan to operate, are fully informed and engaged in the process. We hope that you find the information on this website helpful and welcome your comments. |
There is a growing demand for oil and gas in the UK which is expected to continue. Energy companies are under pressure to meet demands for fuel and other oil-based goods. Oil is used to make plastics, solvents and pharmaceuticals, as well as fuel. The development of well sites in the UK increases our security of supply and reduces our dependency on energy imports from foreign countries. Whilst there is growing investment in renewable energy sources such as wind, wave and solar energy, the Government accept that fossil fuels including gas and oil, are still required to meet our energy needs for the foreseeable future.
The UK’s oil and gas industry is an important source of employment and economic activity. In 2008 some 450,000 jobs throughout the UK were supported by the oil and gas industry with further jobs supported by employee spending (Oil and Gas UK, 2010). Nautical Petroleum are committed to working with local communities and will seek to employ local contractors for building works, landscaping and maintenance wherever possible. Building materials such as aggregates, timber and metals will be sourced locally wherever possible. These proposals would add to the security of energy supplies in the UK, reduce our dependency on foreign imports and help support the local economy. |
